When people hear the word cyberattack, they usually imagine someone guessing a password, planting malware, stealing a computer, hacking an organization's network or exploiting a flaw in software. Personal details of almost 3,000 voters have been leaked by a council in Warwickshire. Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council admitted the data breach and said an administrative error was to blame. Qualcomm shares rose more than 15% in late trading after the chipmaker’s latest results. It said a top hyperscaler plans to use its data center chips later this year and that China’s smartphone market should bottom in the third quarter before returning to sequential growth. Personal details of almost 3,000 voters have been leaked by a council in Warwickshire. Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council admitted the data breach and said an administrative error was to blame. The authority said the issue occurred as council staff were updating the electoral roll, sending out emails to those who had registered with the council's online elections portal. However, the email sent to voters accidentally contained a link to thousands of names, those individuals' corresponding email addresses and, alongside the information, a personalised security code allowing each recipient to log in to the council's online system. When people hear the word cyberattack, they usually imagine someone guessing a password, planting malware, stealing a computer, hacking an organization's network or exploiting a flaw in software. A side-channel attack works differently. It looks for clues a computer gives away while doing ordinary work. A simple analogy is a locked safe. A thief may not know the combination and may not be able to break the lock. But if the thief can listen closely as the dial turns, small clicks or churns or pauses might reveal something about what is happening inside. The safe is not meant to share that information, but its physical behavior still leaks clues. Modern computers have their own versions of such clues. Drought has been declared across large parts of England and the whole of Wales as successive heatwaves have left water supplies under strain. The Environment Agency (EA) has announced that more than half of England is now in drought, with central, eastern and southern areas most affected.
