This article is brought to you by Ollobot . From about 2017, individuals began to truly connect with the initial wave of companion robots. These devices had personality, moved around, joked, and answered when you spoke to them. Most early companion robots, however, were still limited by simple voice-command interactions and narrow functionality. Once the novelty wore off, many ended up sitting unused on shelves. As some of those companies went out of business and turned off their servers, many owners likened it to losing a pet. What Ollobot describes as “gentle intelligence” is a useful way to think about where the serious work in this category is going. Not toward more powerful assistants, but toward more present ones. As the company worked with local governments, it saw a structural challenge: public-sector teams were consumed by daily operations and had little time to reflect citizens' voices in policy. To expand civic participation, Polimill first needed to make government work itself more efficient. The company started building a generative AI platform for public-sector workflows and released QommonsAI in October 2024. Today, QommonsAI provides specialized AI across areas such as assembly response, public services, social welfare, and legal search. The German designer made an intentionally garish aloha-style shirt meant to help the wearer slip past AI camera systems. ### Here's what to know According to [Dezeen](https://www.dezeen.com/2026/08/25/digital-camouflage-shirt-ai-video-surveillance-simon-weckert/), Weckert developed the shirt's warped, high-contrast pattern to throw off AI-powered surveillance tools. The pink, orange, and green shapes are arranged to scramble the visual patterns those systems depend on, so the body is less likely to be read as a person. The cost, complexity, and risk of replacing business-critical systems could make modernization feel like a disruption to manage instead of an opportunity to pursue. But with the rise in customer expectations and the changes AI brought to the economics of software development, that calculation is changing. Bupa’s modernization of its My Bupa mobile application offers a case study in what becomes possible when a legacy migration is treated as a business transformation rather than a technology rewrite. The widening gap points to a deeper operating shift: leading firms connect agents to company context and tools, delegate more substantive work, and make successful workflows easier to repeat. For leaders, the challenge is to turn that depth into work people can trust, measure, and improve. Leaders should also leave room for experimentation, including use cases whose value is not obvious on the first try. Startups [Basis(opens in a new window)](https://www.getbasis.ai/), [Clay

The widening gap points to a deeper operating shift: leading firms connect agents to company context and tools, delegate more substantive work, and make successful workflows easier to repeat. For leaders, the challenge is to turn that depth into work people can trust, measure, and improve.
