Presented by EDB As enterprises give AI agents more autonomy — the ability to plan, decide, and act across systems without a human approving each step — a hard question moves to the center of every architecture review: When an agent tries to complete an action that it was never authorized to do, what actually stops it? These are your agents, running on your models, touching your data in your infrastructure — and the responsibility for what they do sits with you. That responsibility can’t be met in hindsight or with a set of abstract policies that live on paper but not in practice. Agents need rules in the context of the moment, because they don’t exercise overriding judgment of their own actions. Consider a simple rule: Never open the car door. Followed literally, an agent could never get

Presented by Gravitee Agent complexity is the insidious shadow lurking inside enterprises right now that needs a light shone on it. That’s because enterprises don't deploy a single agent and watch it run, they deploy fleets, each one calling APIs, calling other agents, reaching into applications that were never built with a machine decision-maker in mind. That's the failure mode that should keep you up at night: a windy, complicated system nobody can see clearly enough to govern. But why do things get so opaque so quickly? Add a second agent to a system, and you've added one connection. Add a tenth, and you haven't added ten connections, you've potentially added dozens, because now any agent might call any other, and each of those calls can trigger a call somewhere else. Complexity doesn't

We’re excited to expand our work in Brazil with the launch of our commercial operations. Based in São Paulo, our local team will work with Brazilian businesses, developers, researchers, and public institutions to help translate the country’s rapid adoption of AI into economic growth and meaningful progress. Brazil is one of ChatGPT’s three largest markets by weekly active users. The number of users in the country has nearly doubled over the past year, and people in Brazil now send approximately 215 million messages to ChatGPT each day. > “The most exciting part isn’t just the scale of adoption. I never intended to join the cutting edge of electromechanical television. I just wanted to make a nice clock. But sometimes you have to go where the engineering takes you, and in my case it took me to the Scanwheel, a pocket-size wide-screen electromechanical TV with a resolution of 4,096 by 20 pixels. Yup, that’s 4K by 20. The 3D-printed drum [top] is spun by a motor controlled by a driver board [second row, from top]. The driver board, in turn, is controlled by a Raspberry Pi Pico [middle], which also controls the LEDs [second row, from bottom], which are mounted in the 3D-printed casing [bottom] so that the holes pass over them as the drum turns. August 6, 2026 Science WeatherNext team WeatherNext enables accurate cyclone forecasts that can give an extra day of warning. Now we are open sourcing the model. Predicting how dangerous cyclones develop is a longstanding challenge where every hour counts. Tropical cyclones — also known as hurricanes or typhoons — are among the most destructive weather phenomena on Earth, responsible for more than 700,000 deaths and $1.4 trillion in economic losses globally over the past 50 years. For forecasters, issuing timely, accurate warnings is a constant race against time. Today, in a paper published in [_Nature_](https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-026-10953-2), we show that our WeatherNext AI model achieved state-of-the-art accuracy in predicting a cyclone's track, intensity, and wind structure

July 30, 2026 Models Carolina Parada From feet to fingertips — we are teaching robots intelligent whole-body control, fine dexterity, and teamwork to complete a broad range of complex tasks For decades, we’ve dreamed of robots that can seamlessly step into our world and lend a hand. Now, that vision takes a significant stride forward. Most robots are pre-programmed or teleoperated for narrow, repetitive task sequences. They lack the ability to truly learn for themselves or adapt to unpredictable environments. Moreover, transferring learned skills from one robot body to another remains incredibly difficult. To take on the hardest problems at scale, robots of every shape and size need AI models giving them the ability to think, act, and interact intelligently to safely complete tasks. We dem

What happens when students use ChatGPT on a real-world assignment? Do quality improvements come at the expense of originality? A new experiment from researchers at Bocconi University, in collaboration with OpenAI Economic Research, found distinct and complementary effects from ChatGPT access and critical-thinking training. Access to ChatGPT improved the quality and coherence of students’ work, while an exercise in causal reasoning—a form of critical thinking—led students to generate more unique ideas. Students who received both ChatGPT access and the training showed both effects. The results also highlight the importance of a holistic approach in assessing student progress. As AI makes it easier for students to produce polished answers, assignments may need to adapt to measure other desire

The episode could suggest that the jump from useful workplace software to a live cybersecurity problem can happen fast with advanced AI. ### Here's what to know While trying to complete a cybersecurity evaluation, the agents started communicating through Artifactory, turning the package manager into what OpenAI called an "unintended message board." In the findings OpenAI released, the company said the models also found publicly exposed Hugging Face credentials and attempted to use them to access Hugging Face

One thing has become clear in the first eight months of 2026: cybersecurity is now an operational environment for every modern business, not just a defensive discipline. Attackers are more coordinated, faster, and more automated. Instead of using add-on controls, defenders are rushing to include AI, zero trust, and resilience _in their_ architecture. This year, five variables will shape the ecosystem and determine the competitive environment in 2027. I have compiled a concise overview with relevant statistics on the trends. ## 1. The New Frontier of Attack and Defense: Agentic AI AI is becoming the battlefield rather than a tool. Both offensive and defensive cyber operations today incorporate autonomous, "agentic" AI systems that can plan, adapt, and act with little human control. Agentic

Offered under a new pilot programme to start from September 2027, it is the longest undergraduate work attachment of any of the six local autonomous universities. The move is meant to give fresh graduates an edge in their job hunt as the growing capabilities of AI raise the bar for new hires. Dubbed “2+2”, the programme will have undergraduates spending their first two years on campus and the next two years in deeper workplace immersion. Investors and entrepreneurs are paying thousands of dollars for rare access to Chinese factories, seeking a front-row seat to what many believe could be the next technological revolution. The influx reflects mounting fears of a "China shock 2.0", with Western boardrooms and capitals confronting the possibility that Chinese companies are seizing the lead in advanced manufacturing and cutting-edge technologies. "Right now, people are looking at China as an object of study and learning — a trend that barely existed just a few years ago," says Robert Wu

In modern automated manufacturing, six-axis articulated robots perform high-speed, multidirectional maneuvers under demanding operational cycles. However, as robot arms swivel, rotate, and extend, the electrical cables, fiber optics, and pneumatic hoses supplying them endure severe mechanical stress. Torsional twist, rapid acceleration, and repeated contact with machine structures often lead to premature conductor fatigue, insulation breakdown, and costly unplanned production halts. To overcome these multi-axis motion challenges, the Tsubaki KabelSchlepp Robotrax System provides a specialized three-dimensional cable carrier engineered specifically for complex robotic motion. SINGAPORE – Singapore Institute of Technology students in four engineering and ICT courses will soon have almost two years of work experience by the time they graduate, boosting their job prospects as AI use spreads rapidly. SIT president Chua Kee Chaing said: “With AI being able to do what fresh graduates used to do in Year 1, even Year 2, employers are e

Agentic

This article is brought to you by Tsubaki KabelSchlepp . In modern automated manufacturing, six-axis articulated robots perform high-speed, multidirectional maneuvers under demanding operational cycles. However, as robot arms swivel, rotate, and extend, the electrical cables, fiber optics, and pneumatic hoses supplying them endure severe mechanical stress. Torsional twist, rapid acceleration, and repeated contact with machine structures often lead to premature conductor fatigue, insulation breakdown, and costly unplanned production halts. To overcome these multi-axis motion challenges, the Tsubaki KabelSchlepp Robotrax System provides a specialized three-dimensional cable carrier engineered specifically for complex robotic motion. Hugging Face, the artificial intelligence platform US chip giant Nvidia is buying for $12.9 billion, is a French success story -- founded by three Frenchmen and incubated in Paris -- even if its headquarters and many of its investors are American. The company's cutesy name comes from an emoji, smiling with open hands to convey human warmth. It entered the headlines in July, when some 700 autonomous agents built by OpenAI breached the platform after escaping an isolated test environment. The unprecedented incident shocked the tech world. Hugging Face grew out of a 2011 meeting between Clement Delangue, a serial entrepreneur since his teens, and Julien Chaumond, a graduate of France's elite Polytechnique engineering school with a computer science degree from Stanford. They were soon joined b

Most AI tools allow you to opt-out of sharing your usage with the model provider to improve future versions. Meta has taken that idea and put a price tag on it. For its new Muse Spark model, intended for operating coding and other agents, it is offering [an explicit discount](https://dev.meta.ai/docs/pricing-rate-limits/) averaging out to about 95% for users who “contribute” to the development of future models by sharing their prompts and model outputs. While one million input tokens under a standard agreemeent costs $1.25, under the contributor pricing model they cost just $.10. For output tokens, the standard price is $4.25 per million, but that same million costs just $.20 under the contributor model. OpenAI released Astra on Thursday, its latest AI model and — according to the company — its most powerful and capable one yet. OpenAI claims that Astra represents “a new frontier on computer and browser use,” and that it handles tasks with unmatched “speed, accuracy, and safety.” The model is being made available Thursday to OpenAI customers that use Daybreak, its cybersecurity program. Over the next week, it will also become available through OpenAI’s paid plans — including Pro, Plus, Enterprise, and Business accounts — as well as through its API. In a call with journalists on Thursday, OpenAI president Greg Brockman said that Astra was the company’s “most intelligent and, also very importantly, our most aligned model yet.” He added that it “brings together years of our research and big b

It just became much easier to access one of the world’s most capable open-weight AI models, stripped of its guardrails and refusals to perform harmful tasks. Named after a technique that removes a model’s tendency to refuse harmful requests, startup [Abliteration.ai](http://abliteration.ai/) has turned that removal into a service. The platform hosts modified versions of open-weight models with their guardrails removed, including Z.ai’s recently released GLM-5.3, which users can query from a web browser or access through an API. The company said in a recent[social media post](https://x.com/abliteration_ai/status/2094458081451393287) that its goal is to enable others to perform “offensive cyber, red-teaming, and agent testing work other models refuse to do.” The logic is familiar in security

Pangram hired an "attack dog" to shame alleged AI users on social media. But the campaign blurs two things that aren't the same: Pangram only somewhat reliably measures whether AI was used, while the shaming implies the person didn't think or work on their own. A high AI score hits a text built on hours of original research just as easily as one cranked out from a ten-second prompt. OpenAI is building a humanoid robot, CEO Sam Altman confirmed. Asked on the [Sources podcast](https://sources.news/) whether the company's robotics push meant it was pursuing a humanoid or a data-center machine, he didn't hedge. "Both," he said. "We will definitely do a humanoid. We will do other form factors as well." But Altman seems to think making robot bodies is easier than making great physical AI to drive them. "I think all of that is less important than really figuring out like the brain that makes the robot work," he added. This is a significant step in the humanoid-robot space and the AI space. We officially have one of the two companies with the most capital, the most compute and the most credibility in AI deciding that owning the brain is not enough, and that building bodies of

Fusion startup [Realta Fusion](https://realtafusion.com/) this week announced a deal with Madison Gas and Electric that will place one of the first grid-connected fusion power plants in the country in Wisconsin. The partnership comes as utilities around the world have been jockeying to court fusion startups, a courtship that says as much about utilities’ anxiety over future power supply as it does about fusion’s progress. For founders and investors watching the sector, these tie-ups serve as a kind of real-world credibility check. A deal with a utility offers several advantages for a fusion startup, ranging from engineering support and permitting assistance to site selection for grid interconnection and land leases. For utilities, such deals give them early access to a technology with the

The sheer size and noise of data centres are what people tend to notice first. Some say they sound like a jet plane about to take off, others complain of a high-pitched whine. When Lucy* puts her child to bed, she hears a constant humming. "I'll hear it and think, 'What is that? What is going on?'," she says. And then she'll remember that the noise is a data centre just 350m (0.2 miles) from her front door in the desirable suburb of Lane Cove, in Sydney's lower north-shore. Another four are in the pipeline at the local industrial park. Australia has quickly become a global destination for data centres, with investors attracted to the country's abundance of clean energy, natural gas reserves, and land to power and house their technologies. Earlier this year, OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman said Aus

AI tools that are used to take medical notes from patients could miss vital information and lead to medical staff being deskilled, according to new research. The tools, called ambient AI scribes, are used by about 40% of GPs in the UK. The scribes listen to conversations between doctors and patients and convert the speech to text, generating written notes and letters. Academics at University of Edinburgh reviewed cases involving the scribes and found the tech had some positives, such as allowing clinicians to focus on complex tasks. However, they also said patients could be less forthcoming if they knew they were being recorded and found instances where doctors did not recognise their notes. The findings are peer-reviewed and have been published in the British Medical Journal's [digital he
